Councillor learning and development

Under section 28AB of the Local Government Act 1993 (Tas), Councillors are required to undertake mandatory core learning and development. This learning and development includes council-run induction sessions held after an election and specified Learn to Lead online learning modules delivered through the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT).

Councils are also required to report the core learning and development activities completed by each Councillor during the financial year to which the report relates.

In October 2025, LGAT introduced a new online learning management system for Councillors. Existing records were transferred into the new system and Councillors have retained credit for modules completed prior to the commencement of the 2025–26 financial year.

Modules completed in the previous financial years have a placeholder date of ’30 June 2025 as the actual date of completion was unable to be carried over when records were transferred.

The following is a list of those development activities completed by Councillors for the 2025-26 financial year.
